Aren’t they cute? This is one of my favorite enemies from Earthbound for the SNES.

This depicts a high energy scene from my recent Pathfinder campaign. The gargoyle thought he was safe in the air, but Mullet the Gladiator felled him from the sky!

• A simple gesture for the background is made. All the major shapes are roughed in taking care to frame the characters.
• The background develops as a tight sketch. Procreate’s perspective tools are very handy for setting everything in the room and creating guides.
• Details and textures are sketched in. Consideration is put into the types of stonework, repeating shapes, and variety of materials to help bring the drawing life.
• Inks are made for the final art and hatching is added using Procreate brushes.

This study sought to capture the morning light outside the windows and reflection in the bottle.

This painting explored the varied architecture of the ceiling and captured a mural on the far wall.

Sometimes you need to sketch Ada Wong from Resident Evil: 2, right? I fully understand why Leon is so taken by her.

Painted on an overcast day, I thought this might be a good opportunity to study local color under diffused lighting conditions. It’s such a nice spot I should go back and paint there again.

These characters and interactions are based on the party members of a past Dungeons & Dragons campaign.

When waiting for my husband at the ophthalmologist I painted the reception desk. It was an incredibly beige place with rather drab lighting, but wasn’t without its areas of interest. The brightly colored paintings on the far wall were the only breath of fresh air in the otherwise melancholy waiting room, and I was intrigued at how the dark wood of the desk seemed to absorb and annihilate all light that touched it.

The great benefit of Procreate is that it is on the iPad, making digital painting on the go no longer a cumbersome prospect. This was painted at Cafe Passe while on vacation in Tucson, Arizona. If you’re in the area stop by and enjoy a cup of joe in their secluded and relaxing back patio.
